Wheat is grown in more than 96 lakh hectares of land in the Uttar Pradesh. This is mainly due to the highly fertile soil of that region. Uttar Pradesh is the largest wheat producing state in India followed by states like Punjab and Haryana. Maharashtra is the largest onion producing state in India followed by states like Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. Madhya Pradesh is India's largest pulse producing state, which accounts for 23% of total pulse production in the country. Madhya Pradesh is followed by Uttar Pradesh (18%), Maharashtra (14%) and Rajasthan (11%).
