Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) is the process whereby atmospheric nitrogen (N=N) is reduced to ammonia in the presence of nitrogenase. Plants that contribute to nitrogen fixation include the legume family such as kudzu, clovers, soybeans, alfalfa, lupines, peanuts, etc.
